Where RaceTrac Operates
RaceTrac is a private, family-owned company run by the Bolch family out of Atlanta, Georgia, and it has been pumping gas since 1934. Today it operates more than 800 stores under the RaceTrac and RaceWay names across the South and into Texas, with its heart in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. If you are in one of its Texas markets, our city guides make it easy to spot: see gas stations in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
RaceTrac vs RaceWay (and the Gulf Connection)
The company runs two banners. RaceTrac stores are the large, company-operated stations with the full food-and-drink lineup. RaceWay is a franchise brand of smaller, dealer-run stations, leaner on frills but still low on price. RaceTrac also owns the historic Gulf fuel brand, which it licenses to more than a thousand independent stations, so a Gulf sign you pass may trace back to the same company.
Is RaceTrac Gas Top Tier?
No. RaceTrac is not on the TOP TIER licensed brands list. Its gasoline meets every federal and state requirement and runs fine in engines built for regular unleaded, but it does not carry the higher TOP TIER detergent level. For most drivers that is not an issue; if your owner’s manual specifically asks for TOP TIER fuel, pick a certified brand or run a detergent additive through the tank occasionally.
RaceTrac Rewards
RaceTrac Rewards is a free app-based program that earns on both fuel and the store. You collect 1 point per gallon of gas and 4 points per dollar on qualifying in-store purchases, then redeem points for cents off per gallon and for free drinks. Because fountain and frozen drinks are a big part of a RaceTrac visit, the drink rewards add up fast for regulars. You scan the app at checkout or enter your phone number at the pump to earn.
What RaceTrac Is Known For
Beyond gas, RaceTrac built its reputation on the store. Expect an enormous fountain-drink and frozen-drink wall, Crazy Good coffee, a spread of hot and grab-and-go food, and clean, well-lit stores that stay open 24 hours. That mix makes it a go-to stop on Southern road trips, not just a fuel-up.
